Team 53 Robotics is a team of about 25 students from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD who work together with our mentors to build robots and compete in various competitions held by FIRST.
Our biggest matches are the FIRST Robotics Competition and Ion’s Mini Urban Challenge.
..
Different students in our club participate in different aspects in the building of the robots. Currently, we have the majority of the students working on the mechanical aspects of our major robot and mini robot for the FIRST competition. Other students are working on the programming of these robots, and another group of students focuses on other competitions such as Lego Mindstorms. Still more students are working on website and graphic design.
.
Our mentors specialize in each area and help the students with their work. Despite our different areas of work, we all work together as a team, and achieve our goals with the help of everyone.

Like FIRST, we strive to not only inspire our members in the fields of science and technology, but also teach them skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, time management, critical thinking, problem solving, and much more. Members of our team also learn about education opportunities in the technology and engineering areas, and are introduced to great role models in the engineering world. We work diligently and rigorously to meet our goals, meeting for multiple hours a week in order to strive for perfection in our creations and in ourselves.
